More Communication and Transparency

Too many big decisions that shape our schools have little community input.

Issues like AI in classrooms, construction of cell towers near school buildings, or reconfiguration of grade levels into new buildings.

These questions are too important to answer without making more space at the table for parents, teachers, and community members.

I will advocate for the board to share more openly not only about what decisions are made, but how decisions are made.

More Thoughtful Allocation of Resources

When we voted for regionalization in 2023, we were voting for better efficiency, balanced management and making the most of every tax dollar. Instead, Hudson Hudson Regional School District allocated just one art and one music teacher covering 2 elementary schools. The result? Every kid in both towns gets half a program. We have to be smarter and more creative with our budget and leveraging what we have.

More Energy in Our Schools

Highlands and Atlantic Highlands have the friendliest, most vibrant people I’ve ever known. Our schools should pulse with that same energy. For over a decade, I’ve been working with teachers and school leaders for a major education non-profit, and have seen first-hand how schools transform when leaders bring the right attitude.

Next year, the District will hire the next Atlantic Highlands Elementary School Principal, a decision that will profoundly shape that school’s future. No candidate has more experience working with transformative teachers than me!

Meet Megan

My name is Megan McGuane, and I want to be your voice on the Henry Hudson Regional Board of Education.

I have two young kids in Atlantic Highlands Elementary School, and our family will be proud members of this district for the next decade. We are digging deep roots into the community as this town is our home.

Professionally, I have ten years of public education experience working with dedicated education leaders across the country, working in collaboration with teachers, school leaders, parents and community members to improve outcomes for all students. I have seen first-hand how much time, energy and teamwork goes into making sure children have opportunities and academic gains.

I started attending school board meetings last year and co-led with another neighborhood parent opposition against the proposal to build a cell tower on the Henry Hudson Regional campus. Through that process I got to see first hand how our school board operates, learning about the District’s bright spots and challenges.

With the success of tabling a proposal that would be detrimental to our schools and dangerous to our children’s health, I had an inspirational experience that motivated me to run for Board of Education. I want to take the same determination, organizational skills, and community activation with me to influence decisions our school board is making for our children. That means making sure your voice is a welcomed part of discussing and deciding on matters that impact our students.

In my career, I manage a team and work with school teachers, principals, and education leaders on a daily basis. As we strategize how to galvanize the skills and talents of our network, I constantly ask the same question; Is it good for our kids? By putting our children first in our decision making, we will guarantee their wellbeing and success is top of mind.
